Water Softening and Testing

Our plumbers conduct water tests on homes with both city water and well water to determine which minerals are present in the water, and if your space could be improved with a water softener installation. Already have a water softener? No problem. We repair and maintain existing water softeners, too.

Water Softening Services and Installations

When hard groundwater travels through the pipes in and beneath your home, these new minerals combine with heat to leave behind scale and buildup that damages pipes, fixtures, and appliances. Water softeners treat hard water by removing the harmful minerals through a process called ion-exchange.

If your current water softener isn’t working properly, our technicians can make any needed repairs to your system, as well as conduct regular maintenance to ensure that your system continues to work properly. Interested in adding a water softener to your residential or commercial space? Our team will help you select and expertly install a new system, too.

Reasons to Install A Water Softener

Not every home needs a water softener, but they can be crucial in spaces that have hard water, or water that has collected minerals on its way through the ground. Homes that run on well water generally have hard water, but homes that receive city water may have high levels of minerals that require filtration, too. Installing a whole house water softening solution can save you major money in the long run by protecting your plumbing, appliances, and fixtures.

You will also potentially save money on your electric bill because water softeners keep your pipes clean and clear, allowing them to exert less energy to function. Soft water is also better for hair, skin, laundry, and dishes. With a water softener, you will spend less overall time cleaning spotty dishes and dirty appliances and fixtures.

Water Testing Services

At Lenox Plumbing, we offer water testing services that will not only determine the quality of your water, but also help us determine whether or not your home’s water would benefit from a water softener. We offer two different tests, one for homes on city water that detects chlorine, iron and fluoride levels, as well as Ph and the hardness of water, and one for well water that detects copper, iron and nitrate levels, as well as the alkalinity and overall hardness. Frequently Asked Questions

Water softeners regenerate every 2-3 days on average, or more often depending on the system’s efficiency.

It depends on the size of your system’s brine tank, water hardness, and household water usage. Check the brine tank to ensure that you have filled the salt to the appropriate level. Age can play a big role in determining how often salt needs to be added as well. Older systems may need new salt as much as twice a month, whereas new, more efficient water softeners typically need salt added every 6-8 weeks.

If your water softener is working, you should notice less and less buildup on your home’s water fixtures and appliances. If buildup begins to appear again, there are new spots or stains on your clothes and dishes, or if your hair and skin feel noticeably less soft and clean after bathing, these could all be signs that your water softener isn’t functioning properly.

If you aren’t noticing hard water residue on any of your fixtures, appliances, clothing, or dishes, you can also test to see if your water is hard by filling a bottle one-third of the way with water, adding a few drops of liquid soap and shaking for a few seconds. If this doesn’t create fluffy bubbles or if the water is cloudy, your water is most likely hard.
